Debate Team & Debate Competition

The English Debating Team of our school aims to develop students’ cognitive and language abilities, as well as to boost their confidence in public speaking. Our little debaters, who are from P5 and P6, have benefited immensely and have shown great progress. With various training and practices, our team has shown their debating skills with powerful arguments in competitions. Awards were obtained in the past few years. The results were really encouraging. We hope our team members will further strengthen themselves and be debaters when they enter secondary schools.

Halloween

On 31st October, the English Department organized a wide range of Halloween activities. With the aim to explore English in a fun way, there were lots of spooky fun games and activities for our students. Students were enthusiastic about the game booths, Creepy Halloot, mission games as well as art and craft activities. The sights of miniature Disney characters, popular super heroes, wicked witches and pumpkins were seen everywhere.

Before the event, the background and relevant vocabulary of Halloween were also incorporated in the English lessons. Students’ performance was found encouraging and the event was a great success. Last but not least, we are grateful to have parent helpers who volunteered to give generous support in the event.

Interview Skills Training (P5 & P6)

To help our students demonstrate their highest potential during secondary school interviews, our school has specially designed interview skills training workshops for Primary 5 and 6 students. The two interview workshops aim to equip students with comprehensive interview techniques and interview etiquette, as well as enhancing students’ confidence and fluency in English.

Apart from teaching effective strategies, mock interviews and short presentations are done in the workshops. Students can also receive an interview handbook tailor-made by the teachers. We believe that our students can master the interview skills easily through different speaking activities and increase their opportunities of being accepted into their ideal school.

English Ambassadors

Students from P4 to P6 are chosen to be English Ambassadors (EA) every year. They help create an English-rich environment at school by holding various English activities and encourage students to participate in these activities. With EA training at the beginning of the year, our English Ambassadors have gained great opportunities to demonstrate what they have learnt and to build up their confidence in communicating in English. They give great motivation to their schoolmates to use English in Morning Chat and Lunch Activities.

Morning Chat and Lunch Activity

TKP students show their passion in taking part in Morning Chat and Lunch time Activities. Every morning, the English Ambassadors prepare different interesting activities including playing English board games, guessing riddles and phonics games whereas our NET will greet our students and chat cheerfully. Students also have lots of chances to engage in reading activities with our NETs during Lunch time Activity. Students could boost their interest in learning English through these activities.

Writing Toolkit

Our students have been developing their writing skills through Process Writing for several years. To further strengthen students’ writing abilities, the English teachers have designed Writing Toolkits for P4 to P6 students. The books are designed to guide our students to become confident and independent writers.

For each Writing Toolkit, concise explanations of the key features of text types, text samples, guided questions, a wide range of vocabulary choices and essential writing skills are included. Students show improvement progressively especially in organizing ideas and enriching content creatively.
